The biography:
Together with his brother Gioseffo, Francesco Guami studied in Venice, probably supported by the Bonvisi family. Trombonist and composer, he went with Gioseffo to the court of Munich, staying at the service of Albert V, duke of Bavaria, from 1567 to 1580. Actually, some of his madrigals are included in Bavarian anthologies. In 1587-88 (but probably could have arrived earlier, in 1580), he was in Baden-Baden, as Kapellmeister at the court of Margrave Philippe II. His traces are lost until 1593, when he was appointed maestro di cappella at S Marciliano in Venice. In 1596 he became maestro di cappella in Udine, but probably never assumed the position: actually, Galeno was called the year after to fill the vacancy. In 1598 he succeeded Francesco Dorati in the direction of the Cappella Palatina in Lucca. The trombonist portrayed in a miniature by Hans Mielich (Lasso und seine Kapelle, D-Mbs)3 is probably Francesco Guami....
