The biography:
Francesco Onofrio Manfredini was born in Pistoia in 1684. He studied violin in Bologna with Giuseppe Torelli and counterpoint with Giacomo Antonio Perti. In 1696, probably after the dissolution of the Chapel of San Petronio, Manfredini moved to Ferrara in order to work as first violin in the church of the Spirito Santo. Eight years later he left this work and went back to Bologna to work in the new orchestra of San Petronio. The information of a journey to Venice is almost certain, and in the same period he probably had advantageous contacts with the Principality of Monaco: in 1711 prince Antonio I Grimaldi designated him Chapel Master and in 1718 Manfredini thanked the prince by dedicating him the printed edition of the concerts op. 3. In 1727 he was certainly back to his native town, where he worked in the Cathedral of San Filippo until his death in 1762. There is no doubt about the stylistic belonging of Manfredini to the musical culture of Bologna, that he learned from Torelli, Laurenti, Perti and others musicians of the school of San Petronio.
